Healing the Natural Way

Usui Reiki

Reiki (pronounced ray, key) is a Japanese Healing System used for reducing stress, enhancing relaxation and promoting health. Although it is very ancient in its origin, Reiki is a very simple but powerful healing method.

The word Rei means higher knowledge or spiritual consciousness and it understands each person completely. It knows the cause of all problems and difficulties and how to heal them.

The word Ki means life force energy and is the non-physical energy which fills and animates all living things. So long as we possess this energy we are alive.

If the life force energy is low then a person is more prone to illness. Life force energy plays an important role in all aspects of our lives. It also increases not only our physical energy but also enlivens our mental, emotional, creative and spiritual aspects.

During a treatment Rei guides Ki in the practice we call Reiki. Reiki can therefore be considered spiritually guided life energy. This closely describes the experience most people have of it; Reiki guiding itself with its own wisdom, rather than requiring the direction of the practitioner.

All that is required of the recipient is to take their shoes off and although treatments are usually carried out with the recipient lying on a therapy bed, treatment can be given in any comfortable position eg. In a chair if necessary. A session lasts about a hour and is extremely relaxing in a wonderfully conducive atmosphere.

Reiki can be combined with all healing modalities, including conventional and complementary medicines.

The benefits are it speeds up healing on all levels-physical, mental, emotional. It detoxifies the body, aids sleep, increases energy and stamina, relaxes you and relieves emotional upset.

Reiki also makes a wonderful gift- with vouchers available.

Karuna Reiki

The Karuna Reiki system was developed by William L. Rand, in the 1990s. Over the years William had collected symbols and attunement techniques that others had given him. In the 1990s, along with his peers, he began to work with these symbols and out of this a new system of stronger Reiki evolved. It was decided to name this new system Karuna. Karuna is a Sanskrit word and is used in Hinduism, Buddhism and Zen. It is translated to mean any action that is taken to diminish the suffering of others and can also be translated as "compassionate action".

"Compassion is a state of consciousness, which when combined with energy, has great transformational power."

As Karuna is developed, healing is intensified. The energy has a more definite feeling to it and works on all the energy bodies at the same time. The energy surrounds the practioner and client instead of simply flowing through them. It also has a grounding effect.

I am happy to incorporate Karuna Energy into any Reiki session.

Reiki Healing for Horses and other animals

If an animal's energy is blocked or out of balance, problems may begin to appear- both physical and behavioural. Many of theses problems can be helped when Reiki energy flows into the animal and encourages rebalancing.

Benefits include:

Reduce stress, anxiety and nerves- assist the animal to relax and calm down

Recover from trauma, fears, poor treatment or cruelty

Pain relief

Energy balancing

Destress prior to a change in circumstances or travel, focus before event

This is by no means an exhaustive list- the benefits are multiple and wide reaching

What happens during the session:

Before beginning the treatment I will ask the animals permission. I will begin by working hands on or hands off depending on the animal's behaviour. I will then tune into the energy and use my intuition as to when and where to place my hands. This will also indicate to me how long to spend on the session, this may vary from 20mins to over an hour.

During the session the animal may stretch, sleep, twitch, yawn etc. Immediately afterwards the animal may rest, be calm, be hungry or be more energetic.

Reiki can be used alongside conventional medicine. It is non-invasive and non-harmful.

I do ask that a consent form be completed for any animal treated. This is in order to comply with the Veterinary Act of 1966. Please consult your vet and ask him to update the animals records to include your intention to use Reiki. His approval is required.

It is important that wherever possible a quiet place and time is chosen for the treatment.

Reiki- Sarah - My introduction to Reiki was when Polly gave me a treatment, just after completing her Reiki 1. I was so taken with Reiki that I decided I wanted to learn how to practise it. I knew then I would have to wait for Polly to reach Reiki Master as I didn’t want anyone else to teach me.

My Reiki 1 was taught to me on a one to one basis rather than in a group, and it was very special to receive my attunements from someone with whom you are such great friends. The energy and emotion was amazing. My Reiki 2 was done in a group with 5 others and that too was a fabulous experience. It enabled me to give Reiki to others and become a healing channel to help people and situations.

I have progressed with my Reiki and am now booking in to take my Reiki Master. If anyone reading this is thinking of attuning to Reiki I recommend you book yourself in with Polly, she is truly inspiring.

I would like to thank Polly for introducing me to Reiki, and for being my spiritual teacher and special friend. Reiki really has changed my life and so have you Pol.

With affection, fondness, love and light.

Reiki- Brian - Thanks for the Reiki sessions over the last few months. It has been an enjoyable and rewarding experience and certainly helped me over a personally difficult period. Your Reiki has left me with a sense of solidity at my core, a confidence I suppose, which was certainly less strong before, and something I'l be trying to build on.
